Megan Barnett Bloomgren is the executive director of strategy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy. She is responsible for overseeing strategic communications, grassroots advocacy, and public education campaigns. Previously, Bloomgren was deputy director of public affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy and chief spokesperson for the secretary of Energy on energy policy, global climate change, international oil markets, and environmental management. In this role, she developed and executed communication strategies to maximize news and editorial coverage of Administration energy, economic, and environmental initiatives.
Bloomgren was the deputy director of communications at the Council on Environmental Quality in the Executive Office of the President and she served as deputy press secretary at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
In 2004, Bloomgren worked in media operations for the vice president on the Bush-Cheney reelection campaign as well as on the 44th Presidential Inaugural Committee as a media site manager for various galas, including the Commander-in-Chief Ball.
Earlier in her career, Bloomgren spent three years as a consultant in Accenture’s state and local government practice executing communications and change management plans for Pennsylvania’s transition to a new statewide voter registration system and a centralized licensing system in Florida.
Bloomgren is a graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia and currently serves on its board of trustees.
